“KANE” Theatrical Trailer

June 15, 2010

Citizen Kane has been called the greatest film of all time by a number of people (that number is estimated to be somewhere around a gillion). But we here at Singletree Productions asked ourselves, “why is this film okay with just being called that? Doesn’t it want more?” And that’s when we thought it would also want to be called the greatest REMAKE of all time.

So we made a trailer for KANE.

And awesomely enough, Cinematical and /Film have picked up on it.

KANE follows Charles Foster Kane, a newspaper man in a digital age. His paper is dying, like all newspapers. But, he discovers that, if he can destroy his enemy, he can save his paper. That is what Kane takes a vow to destroy the internet. He doesn’t know how, but he knows he has guts and guns, and according to Kane, “that’s all you fucking need to get the job done. And climb the Aggro Crag.”

Please, spread the word. We can save Citizen Kane forever by remaking it into a mindless, ridiculous action film. It might stop all remakes forever. Probably not, though.

Also, if you have $150 million, we could use it.

AFF Q&A Video

June 1, 2010

Simmons on Vinyl played in Austin, TX on May 27 to a large crowd of awesome people. “How do you know they’re all awesome?” you ask? They showed up. That’s the only requirement needed to be awesome in this case.

Check out this awesome video made by Film Beat. It features myself, Cole Selix, and Brand Rackley being sexy and humorous. And it even reveals a new Singletree tradition.

Also, deadCENTER is in EIGHT DAYS! We have two films there: Simmons on Vinyl and the world premier of our new short film, The Bedazzler.

Updates all around!

April 5, 2010

S&M Lawn Care – We just got back the color corrected version of the film. We’re really excited about this film. We are hoping to have a sneak peak of it soon.

Here is the trailer for the film made by the film’s editor Don Swaynos.

And here is the poster, painted by Dan Lacey.

We have a second poster that Mr. Lacey painted for us that we want to use as a festival-exclusive poster. That poster is also amazing, but so very weird.

Simmons on Vinyl – Our second feature film is getting ready to play in Austin, TX again as part of the Austin Film Festival’s film screening events. We really need to fill the theatre, so if you can attend, please do. I might even buy your ticket. This would be a huge deal for us if we can fill the place. Plus, AFF’s Kelly Williams said he would be buy meal.

Here is our promo for this event:

Follicle Frolic – It’s playing this week at the Dallas International Film Festival and the Atlanta Film Festival.

KANE – We made a trailer for a remake of Citizen Kane. It’s everything you don’t want it to be, meaning it’s everything it needs to be. This will hopefully be premiering at the 2010 Aspen Rooftop Comedy Festival.

High-Five – A new short written by Nick Tankersley that will be made next month. It’s pretty messed up.

“Follicle Frolic” in Dallas!

March 8, 2010

We just received word that our newest short Follicle Frolic will be playing in the 2010 Dallas International Film Festival. This is truly an honor. Unfortunately, it is at the same time as the Atlanta Film Festival. We have to chose one to go to, so it will probably be Dallas due to money reasons (and the fact my parents freaked when I said we were driving to Atlanta, or as the cool kids say, HOT-lanta).

Here is the poster for the short.

“Follicle Frolic” in Atlanta

March 4, 2010

I am pleased to announce that our newest short film, Follicle Frolic will premier at the 2010 Atlanta Film Festival. This is a great honor for us. We’ve been trying to get into this festival for a long time so this is great. It is April 15-23 and we hope to make it there. But I think it’s like 45,000 miles or something so driving it will be tough. We were going to use our private jet, but we decided that would be a bad idea in these tough economic and environmental times. Plus we don’t have one.

You might be asking, “Hey Mark, I know you look like George Clooney, but what is Follicle Frolic?” Thank you and good question.

Follicle Frolic is a short film that was made after Brice, my room mate and art director on our new feature S&M Lawn Care, grew super long and beautiful hair. He told me I should make a short film about his hair so I did. And it is this. And it is the weirdest thing Singletree Productions has ever made.

We’re hoping it gets into hundreds of film festivals.

If not every festival ever made.

Simmons in Austin!

January 22, 2010

Get out your calendars or go buy one so you can write down this date: May 27, 2010. That is when our second feature film “Simmons on Vinyl” will play in Austin, Texas. It starts at 7:30pm at the Alamo Lake Creek It’s. free for Austin Film Festival members and $4 general public.

Also, there will be about 30 minutes of specially programmed content by us. Some of it will be old, some of it will be new, and some of it will be sexy.

S&M Lawn Care Trailer

January 10, 2010

It’s been a while, but we are back with the exciting first glimpse at our new feature film, S&M Lawn Care.

The film is currently in post-production right now, being edited by Don Swaynos. We are hoping to have it done this spring and playing at festivals around the world by the end of the year. That’s right: we’re taking over the world. Bad news: the world only has until 2012. That’s just enough time to get to know some rich Russians!

“Simmons” is a hit!

November 18, 2009

The Austin Film Festival went incredibly well. We had two sold out screenings. We had to turn away around 200 people for the first screening. We felt so honored to be at the festival and we truly appreciated the opportunity to screen “Simmons on Vinyl” there.

We received some amazing reviews from critics who saw the film during the festival.

Marc Savlov of the Austin Chronicle calls the film a “realistically quirky comic gem.”

Don Lewis of gordonandthewhale.com said “SIMMONS ON VINYL is a crowd pleaser, and if it continues to be given the right kind of festival audiences, could become a cult fave.”

Jette Kernion of Slackerwood said Simmons on Vinyl is consistently funny.” She also gives the film a great shout-out on Cinematical.

David Rodriguez of The Accent said “This is truly a guerilla film, funny and raw. Director/writer Mark Potts and writer/actor Cole Selix have produced a gem with under $400 and platinum ambition.”

Thanks again for everyone who came out to the screenings and most importantly, to those who helped us get this film made. We are truly in debt (financially and metaphorically) to our friends and family and someday, if a movie studio decides to be awesome and give us money, we might be able to pay back the financial part of that debt.

Austin Film Fest INVASION!

September 16, 2009

We found out that not one, not two, but THREE things we have produced will be at this year’s Austin Film Festival.

First, our screenplay A Splice of Life is a semifinalist in the screenwriting competition. Over 4000 screenplays were submitted and ours is in the top 13 comedy screenplays. We were seriously surprised when we found out. We never thought we’d be a semifinalist, let alone get far at all. We’ll find out in the coming weeks if we are finalists, so stay tuned.

Second, our second feature film, Simmons on Vinyl will be premiering at the festival.

And third, our newest short film, Edgar Freezes, will be playing in the Shorts 1 category, which is known for its odd, offbeat and completely ridiculous shorts.

More information to come!

Meanwhile, here is a photo of me at IHOP listening to the new Mika song “We Are Golden.”

I would be happy without this song playing, but with it playing, I am ecstatic. This song is snappy and peppy!

And Hailey is in the background being creepy.
